St. Joseph’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School or St. Joseph’s School (SJS) situated in the Holy Cross Church premise in Veppoor saw the light thanks to inspiration and encouragement of Most Rev. Dr. A.M. Chinnappa SDB,then Bishopof Vellore and present Archbishopof Madras-Mylapore and the dedicated and tireless efforts of very Rev. Fr. P. J. Xavier, a saintly, self-sacrificing and generous priest of the diocese of Vellore. His concern for the poor and the marginalized prompted him to start with the generous cooperation of HolyCross Sisters St. Joseph’s School in 1995 for both boys and girls with the mottoCommitted Citizens for God and for our country”. Fr. P.J. Xavier always believed that education alone could equip the poor and transform the society into the Kingdom of God.  Hisconcern for the poor & needy along with the dedicated service of the Holy Cross Sisters has changed the face of Veppoor village into a small blossoming township today. 

SJS aims at forming the children especially from the poor and marginalised communities into responsible and committed citizens of our country with moral, psychological, religious, intellectual development and maturity. Students are given quality education with the spirit of our Lord and God, Jesus Christ and His Gospel of love, justice and peace so that they will serve the society in the future with dedication and spirit of sacrifice. In accordance with the rich cultural heritage and pedagogical approaches of our country, students are taught to follow the example St. Joseph, our patron, as well as that of our great leaders, like Mahatma Gandhi, and become ardent seekers of Truth, staunch beacons of Peace, convinced harbinger of Hope and committed builders of the Kingdom of God here in this part of the world.

St. Joseph’s School started as a Nursery and Primary School in 1995 was recognised as Matriculation School in 2000 and the first batch of 10th Standard appeared for the Public Examination in 2003 in which all passed in first class. The first batch of Plus Two passed out of the school in March 2005 with flyingcolours. Since then SJS has served the society in an effective and meaningful way by forming number of students not only academically but in all walks of life. The dedicated and committed service of the former Principals, Rev. Sr. Winifred (1995-96), Rev. Sr. Punitha (1996-1997), Rev. Sr. Mary Kuruvilla (1997-98), Rev. Sr. Mary Lizzy (2007-2008), Rev. Sr. Syria (2008-2009)  and in a special way the strenuous toil of Rev. Sr. Lissy Kurian (1998-2007) have made SJS a distinct landmark in educational landscape of the country.

As the school is administered by the Society of the Diocese of Vellore after the founder has retired in 2004 Rev. Fr. S. Lourdusamy (2003-2004) and Rev. Fr. Martin Santhakumar (2004-2005), Rev. Fr. L. Ramesh (2006-2007), Rev. Fr. G. Peter Raj (2005-2007), Rev. Fr. Xavier Antony and Rev. Fr. Stephan have served the school as Correspondent and Assistant Correspondents efficiently in the past. At present with the blessings of Most Rev. Dr. Soudararaju SDB, Bishop of Vellore, Rev. Dr. Roy Lazar is entrusted with the task of serving the school as Director & Correspondent while  Rev. Sr. Jerline Mascrenhas as Principal and Rev. Sr. Fatima as Principal of Nursery Section. Having a band of dedicated, well-qualified and efficient teachers SJS has developed into an internationally recognised institution of academic excellence and personality development where the future leaders of the global community will take their first lessons in fathoming the heights of human resources for the greater glory of God and for the establishment of the Kingdom of God here on earth. We have miles to go before we sleep! However, we shall overcome someday, with God on our side!
